HUNTINGTON, Wv. - At Tuesday evening's Cabell County Board of Education meeting, several parents objected to a proposed 2014-15 school calendar that would start on August 8th.
The change is being made to meet requirements in a new West Virginia state law that says there must be 180 days of instruction in a school year.

Teachers will receive a $837 pay raise next year if the House of Delegates approves the version of the teacher pay raise bill the Senate signed off on, with a 30-2 vote, on Wednesday at the State Capitol.
The bill, SB 391, was changed on the Senate floor to replace the two percent across-the-board pay raise Governor Earl Ray Tomblin had originally proposed for both teachers and school service personnel.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- Wood County students have missed a dozen school days this semester and February isn’t even over. Between frigid temperatures and snow, it’s been tough to get kids in class.
It’s posed a problem preparing for the annual West Virginia Educational Standards Test or Westest. The West Virginia Department of Education stresses educators don’t teach to the test. However, students do have to be prepared for the exam.
