The school board, alongside considering a student start date of Aug. 12 or Aug. 19, is also apparently leaning toward using a law passed in 2017 to transform five student early-out days, which feature faculty senate meetings after students leave, into full “professional learning” days...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Delegate Roger Hanshaw won a rematch with House Finance Chairman Eric Nelson to continue as Speaker of the House of Delegates.
“My objective is now the same as it was in August, and that was to continue to advocate on behalf of things to put West Virginians back to work,” Hanshaw said after Sunday’s caucus vote.

...A West Virginia Board of Education committee on school finance and funding has formally approved recommendations for changes to the state School Aid funding formula.
Board member and committee chairman, Tom Campbell, says they have to look at the long-term cost to the state, and the cost of children who aren't successful. The Board of Education will take up recommendations at its meeting Dec. 12. They'll include increasing pay and the number of positions for teachers and school...
As new Senate majority leader, Takubo pledges to reach out to Democrats

As the newly appointed majority leader of the West Virginia Senate, Sen. Tom Takubo, R-Kanawha, said Monday he wants to bring more bipartisan cooperation to the Legislature’s upper house.
