WVEA Denounces Putnam County BOE Actions

CHARLESTON, W.Va. − WVEA is disappointed with the latest efforts by the Putnam County Board of Education to ensure the health and safety of students and employees.

“We believe the actions of the Putnam Board of Education this morning are a clear violation of the rules established by the DHHR regarding the reporting of COVID cases and the subsequent implementation of control measures,” states WVEA President Dale Lee. “Putnam County continues to try to create their own rules to get around the health and safety concerns of students and employees.”

“After we received word on their latest actions, we will be contacting DHHR, the WVDE and the governor’s office regarding the clear violation of West Virginia’s Reportable Disease Rules (64CSR7). If those entities do not require the Putnam BOE to comply, WVEA will pursue other avenues to make sure all students, employees and their families are safe,” states Lee.

“COVID is real and so are the consequences for those in our public schools. WVEA is committed to making sure safety rules and regulations are followed,” concludes Lee.
