Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced the appointment of Scott Rotruck to the state Board of Education Friday.

Rotruck will take over immediately, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Wade Linger last year.

“Scott possesses a wealth of knowledge from industries fundamental to our state’s economic growth and ongoing development,” Tomblin said. “His years of experience in the energy and transportation industries bring an important perspective to the Board of Education, and I’m confident he will help prepare our students for the jobs of today and tomorrow.”

Rotruck, a WVU graduate with a master’s degree from Frostburg State, has worked for 30 years in the energy and railroad industries with companies such as Chesapeake Energy, Anker Energy, CONSOL, CSX Corporation and Norfolk Southern Corporation.

“It’s an honor to be appointed, and I take the state’s obligation to provide a thorough and efficient education very seriously. It’s not only a requirement, it is critical to our state’s economic development,” Rotruck said.

Rotruck is also a member of the board of directors for The Education Alliance.
