GILBERT, W.Va. — Another longtime member of the West Virginia House of Delegates has resigned just more than a week before the beginning of the 60-day legislative session.
Del. Harry Keith White (D-Mingo), an 11-term delegate, submitted a letter to the House clerk’s office Monday afternoon.
“I am tendering my resignation to the House of Delegates effective at midnight tonight January 4th, 2016,” White wrote.
The 12-year veteran of the House said he wants to spend more professional and personal time toward economic development efforts in Mingo County.

White was a member of the House leadership team when Democrats were in control. He served as House Finance Committee chairman for eight years under former House Speaker Rick Thompson and then as House Majority Leader for one term under former Speaker Tim Miley (D-Harrison).
White was appointed to the House in 1992. He won election later that year and then won consecutive elections every two years between 1996-2014.
White, a Gilbert resident who works at the Bank of Mingo, is the latest of several Democratic members of the House to either resign or announce they will not be seeking reelection this year.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has at least three appointments to make between now at the beginning of the 60-day session Jan. 13 including White’s seat, a Wyoming County Democratic seat held by Del. Linda Goode Phillips who resigned last month and a Republican seat in Monongalia County formerly held by Del. Amanda Pasdon who also recently resigned.
