FEMA approves grant for Nicholas County schools

WASHINGTON, D.C. — West Virginia Third District Congressman Evan Jenkins announced Friday FEMA has approved a grant for more than $1 million for the Nicholas County school system in connection with flood damage.
“Our children need safe, well-equipped schools, but several Nicholas County schools sustained serious damages in June from devastating floods. Our students, faculty and staff are doing the best they can under difficult circumstances, and we must help them rebuild. I will continue to work with our state and local officials to make sure our schools and towns have the resources they need to rebuild,” Jenkins said in a news release.
Work is underway to install several portable classroom buildings to house students until new schools are built. The construction of new schools for Richwood High and middle schools along with Summersville Middle School could cost $60 million or more.
