The WVEA is seeking applications for the position of Communications Specialist with an emphasis in digital, web and social media. The position is based out of WVEA Headquarters office in Charleston WV.

General Assignments and Relationship
The Communications Specialist will perform a wide variety of duties for the WVEA and local affiliates, including serve as the lead staff person for the implementation of the Association’s digital and social media needs. They shall work under the direct supervision of the WVEA Communications Director and/or WVEA Executive Director.
 

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Ability to design and /or manage an array of complicated projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work within an organizational structure and as a member of a team
  • Ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with colleagues and leaders
  • Ability to think creatively about technology and its potential for Association uses including organizing, advocacy, public relations and marketing
  • Ability to write articles for both print and online mediums
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve and resolve issues with technology, software and digital platforms
  • Ability to take the work and apply it to organizing situations
  • A working knowledge of software applications and digital platforms
  • The ability to adapt to changing technology and keep abreast of the latest trends
  • Ability to work within a structure to integrate the work of the Association into print and digital publications
  • Serve as staff leader for the creation and oversight of a process to measure and evaluate each component of the Association’s web and social media program
  • Responsible for the timely updating of social media/web sites; ensuring links are operational and sites are user friendly. Must be able to work on web and social media projects as the need/opportunity arises
  • Serve as a writer for general information in both print and online venues
  • Ability to write for both an internal and external audience on issues
  • Serve as staff liaison, as assigned, to external agencies
  • Ability to produce and edit videos for online use
  • Ability to share information in a timely manner to members, staff and supervisors
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Both academic and working background in web, social and digital technology
  • Experience with membership recruitment, organizing and organizational development preferred.
  • A working knowledge of digital, web and social media use and evaluation as well as organizing capabilities
  • Ability to communicate regarding technology in a manner that is easily understood
  • A working knowledge of publications
  • Proven writing ability for both print and online articles
  • Ability to perform duties listed above
  • Ability to comply with and implement directives
  • Demonstrated ability to transfer organizational goals and objectives into programs
  • Demonstrated ability as an advocate
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Ability to handle personal stress and confrontation
  • Ability to devote long hours to the position. Hours may include evening and weekend work
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows Operating System and the Microsoft Office Suite of products

Compensation

Salary and benefits package (health, life, dental insurance, 401k etc.) in accordance with negotiated staff contract.
